Choose a small, well-ventilated room for your first decorating project. Read paint and preparation-product instructions and plan drying times before moving furniture.
Protect and inspect
Clear the area, protect the floor and inspect the surface. Avoid sanding unknown coatings or disturbing suspect materials. Lead paint and asbestos require specialist advice.
Work in manageable stages
Follow product guidance for cleaning, filling, priming and coating suitable surfaces. Keep the space ventilated and never mix products or dispose of leftovers down household drains.
